Mission
The Lied Center for Real Estate seeks to advance real estate knowledge, inform business practice, and address issues that affect the real estate industry and public policy. The center produces relevant and timely real estate research, supports educational programs in real estate economics and finance for students and professionals, and provides community outreach.
History
The Lied Center for Real Estate (formerly Lied Institute for Real Estate Studies) was established in 1989 by the College of Business (now the Lee Business School) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to foster excellence in real estate education and research. The center was endowed in 1991 through a generous gift and a challenge grant from the Ernest F. Lied Foundation Trust. Through partnerships with business and community leaders, the Lied Center strives to improve real estate business and effective public-policy practices in Southern Nevada.
Council of Advisors
The Council of Advisors supports the institute in mentorship, career day, and community outreach. Prominent members of the real estate industry as well as the business, legal, and other communities make up the council.
Board of Governors
The Board of Governors consists of academic and real estate professionals appointed to provide perspective about the institute’s goals and to steer the institute’s philosophy of community involvement.

Dr. Vivek Sah
Dr. Vivek Sah is the Director of the Lied Center for Real Estate in the Lee Business School at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). At UNLV, he is responsible for leading the Lied Center’s efforts to grow the real estate program for students and supporting the education needs of the industry professionals in the Nevada region. He also leads efforts to conduct innovative policy-oriented research, forging strategic partnerships, and the development of public forums that engage the community and provide them with a better understanding of Nevada real estate. Prior to UNLV, he spent eight years as a faculty in the Department of Finance and Real Estate and as a member of the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate in the School of Business at the University of San Diego. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in real estate finance, commercial real estate investments, real estate valuation and real estate market analysis. He got his PhD in Business Administration with a focus on Real Estate Finance and Investments from Georgia State University in 2009. He has an MBA in Finance and holds an engineering degree from India.
Dr. Sah’s primary research interests and focus are in the areas of REITs, and Housing. His research has been published in all leading real estate journals in the U.S and U.K including Real Estate Economics, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, Journal of Real Estate Research, Journal of Property Research, Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management, Journal of Housing Research, Appraisal Journal and Journal of Property Investment and Finance. He has presented in numerous domestic and international conferences held by American Real Estate Society and American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association. He has won various awards for his research work. In 2009, Vivek’s dissertation won the Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research under the property category. In 2014, he won the best paper award for his work on “Green REITs” at The Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management. His paper on the effect of distance to school on home values won the best paper award in Economics at the Academy of Economics and Finance in 2014. He is currently an editor of Journal of Sustainable Real Estate and past section editor of Journal of Real Estate Literature. He is currently UNLV’s expert on housing and real estate, and has been quoted in media on numerous occasions including National Public Radio and Wall Street Journal along-with all the local media outlets. Dr. Sah is also one of the thirteen national level Distinguished Research Fellows of NAIOP, which is one of North America’s largest, and most prestigious commercial real estate organizations.
